Synopsis

One for a rainy Sunday afternoon at best

Think James Bond but less serious and funny with Mr Bean replacing Daniel Craig as 007 – this gives you some idea about what you can expect from ‘Johnny English’. On second thoughts, a more accurate description would be a British version of ‘Austin Powers’. Either way this spy spoof stars Rowan Atkinson as the inept hero (Mr English) who is hired to protect the crown jewels after the more capable agents are killed in an explosion. Chaos, despair and some rather over the top French-bashing are the results of Johnny’s appointment. Although ‘Johnny English’ isn't so bad that you will be cursing the money you spent on it, it is one of those films that fails to make any sort of impact or lasting impression. Rowan Atkinson fans will no doubt glide through the film with a sense of joy but in all honesty ‘Johnny English’ is a pretty weak effort - one for a rainy Sunday afternoon at best.
