More embarrassing than funny

Oh dear – another film that lives off one joke (in this case ethnic stereotyping) for the entire duration. Ramu Gupta (played by Jimi Mistri – a stage name you say?) moves to America from his native India as he chases his dream of fame and fortune in the land of opportunity. However, things do not go to plan and Ramu is soon driving a taxi for a living before that natural progression to porn star and finally guru. In all honesty, ‘The Guru’ is more embarrassing than funny. There are a number of poorly executed ‘over-the-top’ acting displays and there is no substance to the film. Now this is ok for a comedy that is funny – but here lies the biggest problem for the film, it’s not. Obvious racial stereotyping, terrible one-liners and a script that is as weak as a hairless Samson all contribute to a pretty awful movie.
