Synopsis

When a writing assignment lands journalist Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) and sidekick DR. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro) in Las Vegas, they decide to make it the ultimate business trip. But before long, business is forgotten and trip has become the key word. Fueled by a suitcase full of mind-bending pharmaceuticals, Duke and Gonzo set off on a fast and furious ride through nonstop neon, surreal surroundings and a crew of the craziest characters ever (including cameo appearances by Cameron Diaz, Christina Ricci, Gary Busey and many others). But no matter where misadventure leads them, Duke and Gonzo discover that sometimes going too far is the only way to go.

Capturing the insane madness of Hunter S. Thompson's literary classis was the challenge that director Terry Gilliam (12 Monkeys) openly embraced.

Any collaboration between Hunter S. Thompson and Terry Gilliam is bound to be one hell of a ride – and that’s exactly what ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’ is. An unhinged journalist and his senseless sidekick seek the American dream and do so with a car loaded with every drug under the sun. 2 hours of psychedelic chaos are the result. Let’s get one thing straight, this is no ordinary film. It purposefully avoids a specific plot and is more or less a hilarious portrayal of one mega acid trip. Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro are terrific and every drug-fuelled sentence that passes their lips is humorous. As you would expect from a Gilliam film, ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’ is visually stunning in its own weird and wonderful way. In fact, so weird and wonderful that maybe some form of inebriation is necessary to truly appreciate this wacky journey.
