Synopsis

Bill Parrish (Anthony Hopkins) has it all - success, wealth and power. Days before his 65th birthday, he receives a visit from a mysterious stranger, Joe Black (Brad Pitt), who soon reveals himself as Death. In exchange for extra time, Bill agrees to serve as Joe's earthly guide. But will he regret his choice when Joe unexpectedly falls in love with Bill's beautiful daughter Susan (Claire Forlani).

    Based on the film Death Takes a Holiday, Meet Joe Black is a romance which fared poorly at the Box Office despite its big budget. Brad Pitt stars as the Grim Reaper, who decides he wants a bit of fun and so makes a pact with wealthy mogul Bill to prolong his life in return for the old man guiding him though the experience of life as a human. Well, visually the film looks pretty stunning and the performances aren’t bad as well as the well crafted music score which helps set the mood. The downside is that Meet Joe Black plods on for what seems like an eternity. Any initial enthusiasm is quickly sapped away as you begin to wonder the whole thing will end. Was the terminally slow pace really necessary? Seems that with better editing they could have cut out about half of the waffle that’s unfortunately included.
