Monty Python's The Meaning of Life

The weakest Python film but still hugely enjoyable

If you are looking for a light-hearted few hours of guaranteed laughs then you can’t go far wrong with the Monty Python team. ‘The Meaning of Life’ certainly falls into this category although compared to other Python ventures it is a little disappointing. Religion, death and the after-life all get satirically hammered by John Cleese and co. and a few songs are thrown in for good measure. Perhaps the main reason that this film doesn’t live up to expectations is because it is essentially a collection of short comedy sketches strung together (very similar to the style of ‘Monty Python’s Flying Circus’). This makes the movie feel a little stop start and detracts from the story. That aside, the humour is still Python and therefore decent but ‘The Meaning of Life’ never reaches the heights of ‘Life of Brian’ and ‘The Holy Grail’.
