Synopsis

Witty imaginative sci-fi for once

Its what I have been waiting for. Serious and funny, sensible and creative, comfortable and surprising science fiction for adults. Great film, Serenity, and Firefly the series was even better. Such a damn shame it was cut short, flaming tv executives would cant get enough reality TV obviously. We really need BBC to pick this series back up now that one gesture would make my TV license worth having - and it has to be said that lately the BBC has been absolute rot compared to ITV and even the Horror Channel! Come on BBC do something good with our money for once. And whilst you are at it get rid of that new DR Who - hes absolute pants and the script writing of the latest series is diabolically terrible.

The biggest crime to TV scifi

Serenity is an offshoot of Firefly, a groddly underrated TV scifi show that was cancelled after 13 episodes. Serenity is the answer to some of the unanswered questions of the series and was made only becuase Weldon refused to let it die, and the fans came out in the thousands to ask for more. Superb acting, really funny, greatly imaginative, Firefly and Serenity must get a new series. The film stand up well on its own but its better after watching Firefly. Most would agree the characterisation in Firefly isnt seen as strongly in Serenity. Nevertheless it is a great film and well worth watching.

Science fiction fantasy Serenity is Joss Whedon's directorial debut in film and follows on from the much acclaimed but short-lived TV series Firefly. The crew of the spaceship Serenity are put in a dangerous position when they are joined by Simon Tam and his mysterious sister River who is carrying a secret that the Alliance will fight to protect. Serenity is a fantastic mix of action, comedy and drama, and is a really refreshing film. Fast, funny and full of likeable characters, Serenity creates a breathtaking world and manages to reinvigorate the sci-fi genre with new life. The special effects are simply brilliant, the fights are incredible and there are some great performances too. Serenity does not disappoint.
