Synopsis

Eddie Murphy plays seven roles in this Jekyll-and-Hyde comedy. Murphy stars as Dr. Sherman Klump, a kind, calorically challenged genetics professor who longs to shed his 400-pound frame in order to win the heart of beautiful Jada Pinkett. So, with one swig of his experimental fat-reducing serum, Sherman becomes "Buddy Love", a fast-talking, pumped-up, plumped-down Don Juan.

Badly scripted and crude family comedy

Despite its poor reputation and critical panning, ‘The Nutty Professor’ is one of the most important films of its generation. This is due to the fact that this movie offers definitive proof that a poor script can completely nullify someone as naturally funny and entertaining as Eddie Murphy. Lazy filmmakers – take note. ‘The Nutty Professor’ is about the depressed and repulsively obese Sherman Klump. With such a simple and futile plot, the films producers really did rely heavily on Murphy to make this film work. With the help of an overworked make-up department, Murphy actually plays 9 different characters in the movie – a sure sign of desperation. Despite Eddie’s efforts, the jokes are too crude for young viewers and not sophisticated enough for a more mature audience. This leaves very few people to enjoy this forgettable adventure.
