Nutty Professor II: The Klumps

Needs a potion to make it disappear

Quite how or why the makers of ‘The Nutty Professor’ decided to make a sequel is quite staggering. After the excruciatingly poor original, ‘The Klumps’ marks the return of Eddie Murphy and co – a return with an even more futile plot. Sherman Klump is getting married but his troublesome alter-ego is threatening to ruin this happy occasion. Sherman and the entire Klump family (all of whom are played by Murphy) must pull together to thwart the dastardly Love. While it may not have seemed possible after watching the original, ‘Nutty Professor II’ is a worse film. The script has more flaws, the jokes are increasingly repetitive and there is just no thought or feeling in this movie. There are some brief glimpses of Murphy’s undoubted comic talent but these are few and far between and not nearly enough to save ‘The Klumps’ from being a dismal film.
