Alien Resurrection

very under-rated

I seem to be one of the very few people to like this film and to be honest I genuinely can't understand all the hostility towards it. OK, so some of the plot devices used to actually set up the fourth installment are a little tenuous (cloning, etc) but since when has the root appeal of sci-fi been believability? Jean-Pierre Jeunet brings the green-soaked visual style he used in City of Lost Children and Amelie and every shot looks great. Maybe a little too much as I guess one of the criticisms I'd concede is that it isn't quite as bleak as the earlier films. Still, the underwater scene is every bit as threatening as anything in the original trilogy and all the sexual undertones of the series are present and correct. For all those still in doubt as to the film's quality, take a look at where Aliens ended up - AVP. Still complaining?
