Synopsis
The Marx brothers come to the rescue to save a small town sanitarium from a ruthless businessman by entering a horse race, betting everything on a horse that wants to jump instead of run.
This is the seventh film starring the legendary Marx brothers made in 1937. It is a rather disjointed story (but hey – that sums the Marx brothers up) about three men who attempt to make money on the horses to save a young woman’s sanitarium from evil developers. ‘A Day at the Races’ is madness from start to finish. The Marx brothers are simply let loose to create havoc and joke after joke is told at the expense of the story. The relentless pranks and the addictive sing-along tunes that are thrown in along the way work in tandem to erase any plot fears. The fact that it is still enjoyable though after all these years says it all. It features some of the greatest comic actors ever seen in their prime doing what they do best. ‘A Day at the Races’ is a charming and heart- warming comic classic that continues to defy time. Simple slapstick it may be, but slapstick at its best.
Another classic from the Marx Brothers
