Synopsis

Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston star in this romantic thriller and worldwide blockbuster.

When beautiful superstar singer Rachel Marron (Houston) receives death threats, she hires Frank Farmer (Costner), the best bodyguard in the business. Haunted by a prior failure to stop an assassin's bullet, Farmer will let nothing and no one stop him from protecting his charge until he breaks the cardinal rule of his profession by falling in love with his client.

    An ultimately missable film based around one song

    'The Bodyguard' is perhaps best remembered for that song by Whitney Houston – a song that is terribly overplayed and seems to go on forever. It is not surprising then that the same sorts of feeling are associated with this movie. Kevin Costner, the all-action bodyguard, is sent to the aid of pop singer Whitney Houston who has been receiving death threats. While saving her from the impending danger, the two fall in love and embark on a potentially dangerous affair. There are no strong performances in this film (especially worrying when you consider Houston is basically playing herself) and the plot is all too predictable. It is a bog-standard example of the 'cheesy love genre' and offers nothing new. That said, it does give timid teenagers the excuse to hold hands at the cinema and that is perhaps the best use for this disappointing film.
