Synopsis

ALEX AND EMMA is the perfect date movie, courtesy of veteran comedy director Rob Reiner (THE PRINCESS BRIDE). Luke Wilson plays Alex, a struggling writer who owes $100,000 to Cuban loan sharks. If he could only finish his romance novel in thirty days he would earn a big enough advance to pay them off, but before he can even start, the thugs destroy his lap top. Enter Emma (Kate Hudson) the prim, highly opinionated stenographer Alex convinces to help him. The rest of the film then oscillates between their present-day budding romance and the 1920s setting of Alex's story, wherein a tutor named Adam (Wilson again) takes a job at a lush country manor and falls for his beautiful employer, Polina (Sophie Marceau). Hudson appears in the story as Anna, the au pair of Adam's student, and with Emma's input, her character eventually supplants Polina as the novel's primary romantic heroine.

  1. a waste of time

The movie's whole plot is really ridiculous. Luke Wilson's character Alex is supposed to finish writing his second novel in a month in order to pay off the mob. So Kate Hudson's character (Emma) works with Alex to help him write the book as he recites it. Well after that the movie starts getting rather slow and drags on. The only thing that makes this movie any fun is the arguments between Alex and Emma about how the scene in the book should be written. This makes most of the movie enjoyable. Another thing I enjoyed was Kate Hudson playing many different roles. They were amusing. Other than that, this film was very dull and forgettable. It's a shame because this movie, I think, had a lot of potential but the writing on this baby was pretty bad. The movie also has a very unoriginal ending which I am sure anyone without seeing the movie can guess.
