Pride & Prejudice

An ultimately uninspiring experience

This clichéd and boring love story (oh sorry – it’s canon isn’t it?) takes place in late 18th century England. Based on Jane Austen’s novel, the story revolves around the lives of the Bennett sisters, whose mother is desperately trying to marry them off – all for rather complicated financial gain. ‘Pride and Prejudice’ is extremely boring – there is no doubt about it. What isn’t so clear is why. The acting is dull but plausible, the storyline is slow but sufficient and the costumes are rather dapper. Unfortunately, nothing grabs you, reels you in and then keeps you there. Fans of the book and television series will also be disappointed with an abrupt and unsatisfactory ending. There is also a little frustration (albeit a sarcastic frustration) that the obligatory period drama appearance of Colin Firth fails to materialise – the final straw in an ultimately uninspiring experience.
