Synopsis

Spencer Tracy stars as John Macreedy, a World War II veteran trying to find the father of the man who saved his life in this classic, taut drama about the evils of racial bigotry.

Macreedy arrives one hot afternoon in 1945 aboard the first train to stop in Black Rock in three years. His search for a Japanese American farmer--to whose son he owes his life--leads to this small Western town's closely guarded secret ... a racially motivated murder ... and to the local citizens who will kill again to keep their crime hidden.

    A Western set in 1945, Bad Day at Black Rock stars Spencer Tracy as a one armed World War Two veteran John Macreedy, who has travelled to the tiny train stop of Black rock to give a Japanese farmer a medal for his son. Getting the town to talk soon becomes the least of Macreedy's worries. As Western's go, this one is pretty damn near brilliant, with Tracy putting in a memorable performance as the mysterious Macreedy. With plenty of action, suspicion and intrigue, Bad Day at Black Rock is thoroughly entertaining. It's got all the classic Western features but it also has a more thoughtful point to make than other films of its genre, which makes it so much better.
