Synopsis

The plan was flawless. The execution was perfect. Charlie Croker pulled off the crime of a lifetime. The one thing that he didn't plan on was being double-crossed. Now he wants more than the job's payoff...he wants payback. Mark Wahlberg is electrifying as Croker in this "fast and furious action-adventure." Along with a drop-dead gorgeous safecracker (Charlize Theron), Croker and his team take off to re-steal the loot and end up in a pulse-pounding, pedal-to-the-metal chase that carens up, down, above and below the streets of Los Angeles. With an ensemble all-star cast that also includes Edward Norton, Seth Green, Jason Statham, Mos Def, Franky G and Donald Southerland, The Italian Job is "Hot!"

Why would anyone want to remake a classic like The Italian Job is beyond me. This film gets the Hollywood treatment and it really is a flop. Instead of the quirky jokes and memorable catchphrases that Michael Caine injects in the original, all you get is glorified action scenes mixed with weak dialogue as it tries to make a successful remake like Clooney’s Ocean Eleven. The ending is Hollywood finding a cheap easy way of ending the film rather than add a fantastic twist like in Caine’s version. Edward Norton is not a believable bad guy in the slightest, Mark Wahlberg’s performance is wooden rather than credible and Charlize Theron is there for eye-candy rather than adding credibility to the script. The only good performances come from Jason Statham, Mos Def and Seth Green who each play Charlie’s crew members. This is a bad film and shouldn’t share the same name as the 60s classic.
