Will I be able to download movies onto my Mac?

  • No, at present our movies are not available for download onto Macs. This is an industry-wide issue. We’re sorry!

I am outside of the UK, will I be able to download the movie?

  • No, we’re sorry (again) but due to our movie rights we are only able to offer our movie downloads to users in the UK at present.

How much does it cost to download a complete film or tv programme?

  • You can download a film to rent or to own, the price differs depending on which option you chose. The price for each option is clearly marked against each film or tv show.
  • Download to own: prices range from £5.99 to £19.99
  • Download to rent: prices range from £1.99 to £3:49

How do I install the blinkBox Download Manager?

  • You’ll be prompted to do this while you claim your movie.
  • If you’re using Internet Explorer:
  • Hit the ‘Install’ button on blinkBox when prompted. You’ll be asked whether you want to ‘Run’ or ‘Save’ the file. Choose ‘Run’ and then follow the on-screen prompts.
  • If you’re using Firefox:
  • Hit the ‘Install’ button on blinkBox when prompted. You’ll be asked if you want to save the file. Click the big ‘Save File’ button. This will save the file to wherever you have asked Firefox to download files to (this is usually your Desktop). Find the ‘Setup.exe.’ file which you just downloaded and double-click on it. You’ll be warned that this is an ‘executable file’ which comes with risks. If you trust us then click OK and then follow the on-screen prompts.

What software do I need installed on my computer to play the film?

  • You will need to install the ‘blinkBox download manager’. You will get a request to do this when you are claiming your movie. All titles also require Windows Media Player 11. You can find it here

How long will it take for me to download my movie?

  • It will depend on how fast your broadband connection is and the size of the film. Most of our movies are about 1GB, and on a 2MB broadband connection this will take around an hour.

Where is my film stored once it is downloaded?

  • Your film is stored on your PC until you choose to delete it. You can locate your movie by going to where you saved it or by opening up the Download Manager. The first time you watch your movie you will be asked to confirm your blinkBox email address and password.

How do I play movies?

  • Go to the Download Manager, select your movie and click the play button. The first time you play your film you’ll be asked to confirm your blinkBox email address and password.

When I try and play my movie for the first time I’m asked to enter my password again. Why?

  • We need to send a licence to your PC to play the movie – we do this when you first try to play it back. To make sure we’re sending the licence to the right person we ask you to confirm your blinkBox login details. Once you’ve done this, the licence will be issued and you can watch your film.

I can’t play my movie.

  • Please check that you have Windows Media Player installed on your machine. If you are still having problems then please contact customer services via the online submission form.

How do I delete my film?

  • Once your film has downloaded you can go to the location on your hard drive that you downloaded the movie to and delete it from there. If you’ve decided that you don’t want to download a movie after you’ve started it, you can hit the ‘Cancel’ button – but please be careful as you won’t be able to download another move for free.

What is blinkBox?

  • blinkBox lets you share your passion for movies and TV with your friends.
  • Choose your favourite film clip, tag it with your personal message - and you’ve created a blink, which you can send to anyone’s mobile or PC.

What’s a blink?

  • A 'blink' is a clip from a film or TV show with your personal message. Say whatever you want with a blink. You can scare your mate with a blink from The Exorcist or send them off laughing with a blink from National Lampoon's Vacation.
 

REGISTERING WITH BLINKBOX

How do I join?

  • To join you need to select the ‘Register’ option at www.blinkbox.com and complete the form.

I never received my welcome email

  • If you don't receive the welcome email please check in your spam folder. Unfortunately some email clients are more aggressive than others about identifying spam. If you still haven't received it after several hours, you can try again with a different email address or get in touch by submitting a support request on this page.

I forgot my username and password?

  • Your user name is your email address but if you forget your password simply click here to let us know and we’ll email back the information you need to log on.
 

MAKING AND SENDING BLINKS

How much does it cost to send blinks?

  • Blinks are absolutely free to send to email. Sending a blink to mobile costs 20-30p. We don't charge the person who receives the blink, however, some operator charges may apply.
  • If you receive a blink via email, just click on the link and follow it to the site. To view mobile blinks, click on the link and then download the video in order to play it.

How do I send a blink?

  • The 3 step process to sending a blink
  • 1. What do you want to blink?
    You can either send an existing blink or you can create your own. To create a blink, find the movie or TV show you want to make a blink from. Choose a scene you want to blink from and then hit ‘Create blink’.
  • 2. Create your blink
    Drag your start and end points to where you want them, and add your message on the right hand side. Select what you want to do with your blink (send it or post it) and who you want to be able to see it. Hit 'Next' when you’re ready to move on.
  • 3. Send it
    If you are posting your blink (for example to a blog or MySpace) then your embed code will appear. If you’re sending the blink via email or mobile then you’ll need to add the person or people you want to send it to, either from your current friends list or by adding new contacts. Then hit 'Send'.

Can I make private blinks?

  • When you are creating your blinks there is an option to make the blink private. The default setting is that it is a public blink – i.e. everyone can see it.

Can I embed blinks to my website?

  • Yes – once you have sent your blink there is an option to take the embed code and publish your blink to a blog or certain social networking sites.

How do I find the film I want to make a blink from?

  • Simply browse through our catalogue by hitting the Movies or Television buttons at the top of the screen. You’ll then be able to browse through our library.
 

MANAGING MY BLINKBOX

How do I delete a friend?

  • Go to My blinkBox and click on the ‘More’ link on the Friends box. You’ll then get more info about all your friends, including an option to remove them.

How do I add a friend?

  • Search for people by going to ‘More’ in the Friends section of My blinkBox. Here you can search for people on blinkBox and view their profiles.
  • When viewing a user’s profile there is an option to ‘Add as friend’ under their picture. Click here and they’ll be sent a friend request.

How do I edit my profile?

  • Go to My blinkBox and click ‘Edit my profile’.

What are friends?

  • Friends are people who you have connected to by adding them as a friend on blinkBox. They’ll appear in your contacts list when you want to send a blink, and you can give them access to information about yourself that you might not want everyone to see.

How is my privacy protected?

  • You can set privacy settings by going to 'Edit My Profile' in My blinkBox and selecting what you want to be shown or hidden on your profile.
