- Mary Louise ("Meryl") Streep is an American two-time Academy Award winning actress who has worked in theatre, television, and film. She made her professional stage debut in 1971's The Playboy of Seville, and her screen debut came in 1977's made-for-television movie, The Deadliest Season. Streep made her film debut in Julia (1977), opposite Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave.
