- Frank Lloyd was one of the 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). He was the only person to ever win a best director Oscar for a film (in this case The Divine Lady) that was not nominated for Best Picture. He was the President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1934 to 1935.
