He was nominated twice for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor.He appeared in dozens of television series, including Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Hawaii Five-O, The Greatest Show on Earth, Kojak, The Streets of San Francisco, and Cheers.
