- John Nicholas Cassavetes (December 9, 1929 – February 3, 1989) was an American actor, screenwriter, and director. He is considered a pioneer of American independent film with his vérité style of shooting and empahisis on spontineity between actors. His best known works include The Killing of a Chinese Bookie and A Woman Under the Influence.
