Synopsis

The story of the making of Bat Out Of Hell is told here featuring interviews with Meat Loaf, composer Jim Steinman, producer Todd Rundgren and others associated with the making of the album. Jim Steinman recalls how the Bat Out Of Hell project first came into fruition, and how a teenage obsession of his to write the ultimate ‘car crash song’ led to the creation of one of rocks most recognisable anthems. Record producer Todd Rundgren reveals how Bat Out Of Hell was viewed as damaged goods when it was eventually released, and how the music critics met it with indifference. Meat Loaf remembers the early days spent touring that often left him at the point of collapse due to physical exhaustion, so determined was he that Bat Out of Hell would become a success.

  1. a fun watch

    06 December 2008
You have to admire Meatloaf’s intensity, passion and enthusiasm when he speaks about his work and you have to admire his performances on stage when he sings his songs and you totally get that in this documentary. It is a good documentary that definitely pays the ultimate tribute to Mealoaf’s work on the album. His music felt operatic and grand like it should be on a West End stage yet could be played blasting from your speakers in your car. Even if you are not a fan of his work and music, this documentary still fill the audience with very interesting quotes, video performances and analysis that will keep you interested. It’s crazy at times but it is fun to watch.
