Synopsis

The dramatic story of Graceland is told here in Paul Simon’s own words along with electrifying footage of Simon performing songs from the album including the title track Graceland, Under African Skies, Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes, plus footage from the distinctive videos of You Can Call Me Al and Boy In The Bubble. This acclaimed film shows how a career setback for Paul Simon precipitated the inspiration for Graceland, how he learned so much from the South African musicians he met and how by collaborating with them a triumphant album was created.

    a perfect album

    06 December 2008
This programme gives you a wonderful insight into Paul Simon and his album Graceland. The album is very influenced by South African beats as he tries to capture the beauty and essence of South Africa rather than the hatred and the violence. Paul Simon tries to change people’s perception and he does that to perfection. I love especially how he talks so fondly about his song “You Can Call Me Al” which is helped with interviews and personal accounts of how the song was made. Paul worked with some talented musicians and artists for his album and it was just fascinating how it creatively worked. Paul had the perfect album, so why don’t you watch the perfect video to go along with it.
