  1. blinkbox classic episode #1

    06 December 2008
n which we are introduced to our favourite Upper East Siders. The impossibly beautiful Blair, the incredulous Chuck Bass, Nate, Serena, Dan and contender for hottest Dad on a TV show), Rufus.
I know the first time I watched this show I was concerned it was just gonna be the OC in New York, but it turned out to be way more. Infused with smart and savvy pop cultural references with lots of bitchiness and deceit, Gossip Girl is the archetypal 00s NY TV show. I defy you to watch this episode and not want to move to Manhattan.
There’s bitch fighting, cheating, dating a boy from the wrong side of the tracks, trying to rise in the popularity ranks – and that’s just one episode. It’s like My So Called Life meets John Hughes on speed. If you’re looking for gritty realism look elsewhere, but if you’re looking for the decade’s most addictive tele-visual sensation, you’re in luck.
