Synopsis
In episode one we meet 46-year-old Susan Sharpe from Yorkshire. At size 16, she’s the average size for a British woman – but she feels that her curves are out of control. In fact, she hates her body so much she never looks in a full-length mirror, and hasn’t let her husband, Robert, see her naked for five years. She has taken to hiding her curves in big black trousers (she has 13 pairs) and baggy jumpers (she has 8) that she buys – without trying them on – from the charity shop where she works. “It would take about six bottles of wine,” says Susan, “to get me into a dress.” She hasn’t been clothes shopping on the High Street for seven years, and has cancelled a beach holiday because she’s too ashamed to show her body.
