Synopsis

Few would have predicted that in 1991 Nirvana would be No. 1 on the US Billboard album chart. Not only did Nevermind replace Michael Jackson at the top but it succeeded in doing what the Punk Rock movement had failed to achieve fourteen years earlier. Nevermind and the songs of Kurt Cobain changed the music business from within, without compromise, record company hype, or media overkill. The programme tells the story behind how Nirvana came to record Nevermind, the effect the record was to have on the music world and on the band themselves, and why to this day it still remains a milestone in rock history.

    great grunge insight

    06 December 2008
No one would have predicted the success of what Nirvana had achieved back in the early 90s music. This excellent documentary gives you the insight into Nirvana’s hit album, ‘Nevermind’ which includes the iconic smash hit, “Smells like Teen Spirit” and “Lithium”. The songs were in your face and young teenage kids of the 90s identified with it. There are personal accounts from people like Dave Grohl (the Foo Fighters) who give intimate accounts about how Kurt Cobain was in the studio and how he creatively achieved the sound that made Nirvana what they were. Even today their influence is popular than ever. Shooting the video for “Smells like Teen Spirit” was intense and something that wouldn’t happen today, but the chaos and the madness added and enhanced the meaning of the song and the band’s reputation. I fully recommend the watch, you will not be disappointed.
