Synopsis
The documentary-maker spends three weeks with the controversial Phelps family, who make up most the 71-strong congregation of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas. The are famous in the States for their protests against America's liberal attitude towards homosexuality, blaming it for 9/11 and the death of US troops in Iraq. Theroux also meets Steve Drain, the last documentary-maker to film the Phelps family. He was so touched by their exteme message that he is now a member of the church and the Pastor's right-hand man.
