Synopsis

Based on the popular British series of the same name, this faster-paced American version follows the daily interactions of a group of idiosyncratic office employees via a documentary film crew's cameras.

Regional manager Michael (Steve Carell) thinks he's the coolest, funniest, best boss ever - which, of course, makes him the uncoolest, most obnoxious and annoying boss as far as his staff is concerned. His co-worker Jim (John Krasinski) lusts after engaged receptionist Pam (Jenna Fischer) when he's not sabotaging his cube-mate, the know-it-all Dwight (Rainn Wilson). Ryan Howard (B.J. Novak) is a young, smart, self-possessed temp, who quickly figures out the real office politics despite Michael's attempts to instill the official point-of-view.

This american version stands well on its own feet

    06 December 2008
Based on Ricky Gervais’ UK comedy of the same name, this ‘Mockumentary’ series parodies embarrassing social situations in the Office environment. Not being a fan of the Office UK, I felt that by watching Office USA I would have to succumb to the American humour. The subtleties differ massively to Gervais’ British version, occasionally to a detrimental effect, but often, to my surprise, to a superior quality. However, this version should be approached differently to the original or you will be confused and disappointed. Carrell provides some very well acted and funny cringe worthy moments throughout the series. Whereas the UK version is more of a documentary style innovation, the US version is more of a traditional comedy, with laugh out loud moments and a lack of the British refine. However, it somehow works, and is worth a watch.
