Overview

Synopsis:

After blasting away the competition to become the most-watched cable miniseries of 2003, "Battlestar Galactica" returns as a one-hour weekly drama. The show reunites the entire cast and creative team behind the miniseries, including stars Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Jamie Bamber, Tricia Helfer, Katee Sackhoff, James Callis, and Grace Park. The new "Galactica" series picks up where the hit mini-series left off. After engaging in a losing battle against the Cylons, humanity's last remnants fled in search of a new home, a mythical planet called Earth. With waning supplies, weapons and hope, Commander Adama and President Laura Roslin (McDonnell) realize that their problems are far greater than the immediate threat of Cylons. On their shoulders rests the very survival of humankind.

    Greatest TV show ever?

    This has everything: Great acting, brilliant story, exciting action, characters you can really believe in.
    All involved give their career best performances.
    But what makes it truly involving is that it deals with the real issues in life; religious and political.
    At last a drama for the mind, heart and eyes!

    I havent watched any of Battlestar Galactica and would like to see it from the sdtart rather than watch it piecemeal. So we really need the miniseries on here to watch before we get onto the TV series. Same for the original V - very little point putting on later series before the first ones.

    Who would have thought that a clunky, dated Star Wars rip-off TV series could be revamped into a gripping, topical and multi layered science fiction show? The basic plot outline is that 50,000 or so refugees manage to escape a devastating attack by a man-made robotic race called the Cylons and decide, instead of fighting to the death, that they will search for the promised land of Earth despite the ruthless Cylons being in pursuit.

    Battlestar Galactica stands out from the endless sci-fi crop for many reasons- it is filmed in a modern slightly shakey style which gives a hint of realism to the story, the special effects are Hollywood quality, the script doesn't insult the viewer with either stupidity or scientific mumbo-jumbo but deals with topical themes of the modern world in a subtle and respectful manner, the acting, bar a little hammyness here and there, is of a decent standard and the show has an unusually dark and gritty tone that often doesn't patronise the viewer with black and white solutions or banal heroics but provides an enthralling and realistic drama in an unusual setting.
