A carnivorous Venus fly-trap gains an insatiable appetite for human flesh, growing to giant proportions as flower-shop geek Seymour commits murder by moonlight.
I always hold the remake to my heart due to the quirky characters, the fun songs and a street-wise attitude talking plant. This film doesn’t have those eye-catching songs but the original does hold its own well and it gives a nice comparison to the remake. The characters are still quirky with plenty of humorous and entertaining lines that will keep you watching till the very last scene of the film especially from Mel Welles who plays the flower shop owner. He is probably the real comedian of the film. Filming in black and white seems to add another dimension to the movie and with a production that looked like it was filmed on a shoe-string budget, this film really works well. Look out for a very, very young Jack Nicholson who made his movie debut in this film. This is certainly a unique film that you should have in your collection.
